Re: My Media - Your Music and Video on the Roku DVP

Hmm... this was a problem a while back, but should have been fixed by a firmware update. Which version of the Roku firmware do you have (on the "Player Info" settings page)? Alternatively, try encoding with the x264 codec. It's much slower than the ffmpeg encoder, but you may get better results. I use HandBrake as well and I'd say about 1 out of 10 videos will have a problem of some sort. I've never been able to figure out exactly what the problem is.

Thanks, I encoded using dvdfab this morning (ipad settings), and it looks great now.

Regarding the artwork, looking at it again, the album covers look good, but maybe that's because they're square and easier to resize? Perhaps there's an optimal size for DVD artwork for it to look good, I'll try and play around with it a little.

Re: My Media - Your Music and Video on the Roku DVP

Hi all, I'm having some troubles getting my server set up, and I'm hoping someone here can help.

I have a desktop running Ubuntu 10.10 where I've installed the server. The IP for this machine is 192.168.1.46, and I've changed the server settings (both in the server configuration and the Roku settings) to reflect that. If I point my laptop browser at 192.168.1.46:8001, I have no problem accessing and playing my music. From my Roku, though, when I click on 'My Music', there is a delay and then the message: "Server Problem. Communications with the server has been lost. Ok/Abort" The server is still running after this happens--without restarting it, I can still access it from my laptop.

Any hints as to what I can use this from my Roku? Thanks!

That's strange. I suspect there's strange song info that's causing a problem. Can you try creating a new music folder and just put one MP3 in that folder to see if that works? Don't forget to change your configuration to point to the new folder. You can just edit config.ini directly if you like.

Re: My Media - Your Music and Video on the Roku DVP

What dimensions or ratio of height to width are people using for their movie artwork? Music artwork seems to scale fine, but the movie artwork is quite pixelated. It generally looks ok, except for the one movie that's selected. I checked and PIL is definitely installed, shouldn't PIL be doing the scaling smoothly?

Cheers

Re: My Media - Your Music and Video on the Roku DVP

It seems my server installation is correct. I have installed PIL. I can see the photo folder and the image names but the image never shows up.

I used MyMedia from PlayOn and it used to atleast display my images.

Is there any way to know if my installation is correct?

Any clues?

Re: My Media - Your Music and Video on the Roku DVP

From a browser, you can browse to your server and you should be able to view your pictures, play music, etc. For example, my server is at 192.168.1.115. If I browse to http://192.168.1.115:8001/feed I'll get all the top level folders and if I click on "My Photos" I'll get a list of subfolders and photos. Click on a photo and it should display in your browser.

I cannot see the folders, it just takes forever to load the photos.

Just fyi, my photos are on a NAS drive.

I don't understand. It takes forever in a browser or on the Roku? In a browser you should just see a list of your photos and then clicking on one of the file names should bring up the photo. The list should come up pretty quickly. How many photos do you have in the folder?

It could be because it's scaling for an SD screen and maybe you have a larger HD screen? The SD/HD thing is one of the things that we never got around to fully handling. You can try disabling the PIL package to see if it looks better. Just rename the PIL directory to something like PILtmp temporarily and restart the server. It's in C:\Python26\Lib\site-packages by default in Windows.

Another thing to try is to edit common.py and change the two lines
THB_DIM = THB_SD_DIM
FULL_DIM = FULL_SD_DIM

to
THB_DIM = THB_HD_DIM
FULL_DIM = FULL_HD_DIM

Both (Roku and Browser), I have 100-200 photos per album. I have a whole tree of folders with pictures.

Just as a side, there is a cmd terminal on the side which is logging something like this. I assume this terminal has to be kept open?
