New Developers Preview: Avocado

This is the last preview before we promote the development branch to stable. Please download it and let us know if you have any trouble.

New Features

• Smoother navigation - No more pop ups for shuffle and play all. These features now have their own icons. Thanks renojim


• More theming from umbighouse


• HTML/flash music player - Handy if you, like me, do a lot of work on a netbook with a tiny harddisk or just want to conveniently access your music through the say My Media menu structure


• Playlist support - Only m3u at this point and only for media in your collection but more functionality is coming soon


• My Streams - VERY early preview of adding remote streams to your My Media collection. I hesitate to even announce this one because it only works if you have a direct link to an MP3 file (ex: http://www.miaowmusic.com/mp3/Miaow-03-Lentement.mp3). Edit your list by going to http://localhost:8001 and clicking on "Personal Links." This feature is basically worthless until it supports external playlists and streams. I'm looking forward to listening to radio paradise on my roku... can't do that with this feature yet.


• Minor artwork handing improvements


• Minor bugfixes

I just noticed I introduced a bug in the latest release with the "Play All" and "Shuffle All" posters. They work, but if you try to select a single song and play it, the client may crash. Sorry about that. I should have it fixed before the day is over.

el.wubo I can't thank you and the others enough for working on this. You all have made my day. Just to give an idea of how well it has kicked off for me I had to go out today and buy a new external 1.5 TB drive for the old laptop that I have been using for a server so I can start loading every thing onto it so I can stream to my TV. The old 160 Gig couldn't take any more.

Got your fix. The new release is called "AwesomeAvocado" ... now to start thinking of an adjective that begins with the letter 'B'...

Oops. Thank you. I made the release but forgot to upload it.

Turns out AwesomeAvocado had a theming bug anyway. It's fixed in the next release: The long awaited BodaciousAvocado is finally here 🙂

Yes, It's updated. I just downloaded the zip and checked it out. Look for the default_streams.pickle file in the server directory to confirm that you're running Cackling. It's new for that version.

Note: You won't see the default streams if you've already made your own. If you want to see them you'll need to delete your my_streams.pickle file. The next time you save your list of streams in the editor the my_streams file will be recreated.
