KidPaint released as open source!
Well, we finally did it -- GandK KidPaint has now been released to a public open source repository on GitHub:
https://github.com/rokudev/kidpaint
This has been a long time coming, but we didn't want to say goodbye to 2010 without fulfilling our promise to release all of the KidPaint code. We welcome contributions from all of you, and hope to see KidPaint grow with community input.
Also, don't forget that KidPaint, like all of our projects, depends on libRokuDev, the open source library collection for Roku development -- give it a look, and contribute your cool BrightScript tricks for the whole community to share!

Re: KidPaint released as open source!
Thankyou! I was going to look at KidPaint anyway to try to figure out how to play short sounds.

Long story short, we added empty noise to each sound to pad it to over 1 second, which is what the Roku seems to require to reliably play using the audio player.
I think Geoff generated 0.125, 0.25 and .5 second empty wav files, I concatenated them together until it was over each second for each sound, and converted to MP3.
