Is special custom UI a myth?
Is it anyone who can confirm or bust the claim applications like netflix, hulu and youtube has access to a special API to create the custom interface they have?
If yes, is it any reason why those got special access and if no and this is something everyone can accomplish on the current public accessible dev program why wont anybody start making more modern interfaces than we see today on the most of the applications out there?
Also if its possible to create modern UI, has anyone created tutorials how to start walking outside the standard "old looking" screens provided here on roku?

Re: Is special custom UI a myth?
Using roScreen I'd venture to guess you could create almost any UI that you want.

From the official Roku documentation, the Roku Developer Guide states:
The OpenGL ES 2.0 API is currently only available under NDA to selected premium development partners. Roku desires to more openly share these low level APIs. We are hard at work tackling the security issues with this sharing that will simultaneously give content owners good reason to trust the uncompromising security of the box.
So it's not a myth.

Netflix and Youtube are NDK apps. Hulu+ is now a 100% Brightscript app, except (I think) on legacy devices.
