Is HTTPS known to be slow?

Hi all,

After switching my URLs to HTTPS I've noticed that data is loaded much slower. One specific example is a file that weighs in at a whopping 107 bytes being served by CloudFront. On my computer requesting the file is consistently under 100ms. On the Roku 2 XS over HTTP the request takes between 400-500ms, but when I access the file using HTTPS instead it takes 1400-1800ms! I'm using the common:/certs/ca-bundle.crt cert file.

Is this a known issue on Roku devices? Are there any workarounds?

Thanks!
John

Re: Is HTTPS known to be slow?

If your roku 2 xs is using wireless you can probably decrease the request time slightly using ethernet to avoid any problems with the wireless signal, or bypass the wpa/wep encryption for the wireless.

Wifi isn't an issue - I got the XS specifically for the ethernet port. 😄
