You can't. The focused item position is fixed on the grid screen. You could experiment with a different grid style to see if you can find one that works the way you want, or use a poster screen, instead.

Re: How Do I Start Developing a Channel?
Ok I read all the documentation, but I think I missed some stuff. ADHD is tormenting lol. Anyway here's what I have and what I want to do and I just think I need a little nudge in the right direction to get started..
I have a website that streams video already, http://www.tvbydemand.com (I've been running this site since 1990, first as a BBS and then a website it was formerly known as Garage Action BBS)
I have a source to create new content, http://www.locowrestling.com (It's a Pro Wrestling company that also trains new wrestlers we have 8 years of content and new every week)
My programing skills unfortunately are a bit obsolete, I still code in asp 2.x on a windows server (2012 32 bit enterprise). (You can tell by the website design it is about 8 years since reworked)
My database skills are at sql server 5.0, access 2000.
We currently use Windows media services to stream, but I have also in the past used Unreal Media server.
Our content catalog is currently in an access database (access 2010 enterprise and/or sql server 5.0 std). we use asp to read the database and setup the streaming page. We have done this way for years.
What I want to accomplish is to stream the existing videos to roku users and have the ability to update the catalog as we add more video to our servers.
In the future I'd like to add live broadcasts to it as we do several weekly shows and produce for different people at our production studio.
I do not want to charge for anything at this time, maybe in the future a ppv here or there would be nice.
Anyway I need help where to start, I have a server, content and the willingness to learn the system. And hours a day to do it.. Any help will be appreciated..

Re: How Do I Start Developing a Channel?
Hi,
Where to start:
* you should be able to code up an XML list of your files you want to serve in ASP 2.x, organized in whatever way you feel works best. Minimal data per media object would be title, description, HD and SD poster artwork, and the Stream URL(s) for that item
* Since you are Microsoft Centric, can you set up Microsoft Smooth Streaming server services on your windows server?
* Once you have those sorted out, then you can begin to create your Roku channel. It's not too difficult. We suggest you start from scratch rather than attempting (as many do) to hammer one of our SDK examples into shape - better to customize the suit to the man than the man to the suit, the "man" being your content and datafiles.
For help getting started with the Roku side, post a specific request for the aspect of development you are working on as a topic (not on this threat) on the forum, for example "How do I retrieve an XML file from my server", although we suggest you search the forum first to see if anyone else has already answered that question. Try not to resuscitate old threads if you can at all avoid it.

Re: How Do I Start Developing a Channel?
I am having a problem with the sdk:
the videoplayer.zip file has a directory named XML but there are no files in it. I have downloaded the file with three different browsers on two different computers and the example XML files do not exist within the zip file. I am kinda stuck as I do not know what the format for the main.xml and channel.xml is supposed to be. I have already built the xml file for the video list which contains 61 videos.
Anyway if someone can help me with an example or something so I can continue on..
So far I have made my image files in sd and hd, converted my windows media services server over to IIS Streaming and created all the ISX files for my 200+ videos. Which all seems to work well on the web site, on my ipad and on my android tablet, now am just stuck at the xml's for roku.. please help..

Re: How Do I Start Developing a Channel?
Hi there -
I am following step-by-step through the developer guide, and am here:
7.4 Sample “Hello World” Program
Now that you’ve installed some of the SDK examples, try building your own program from scratch.
% mkdir helloworld
% cd helloworld
% mkdir source
There are no instructions on where to do this. Do I telnet into the Roku box? If so, how do I do that?
I've tried IP address, and it times out.
I was able to successfully use the web-based installer, but am stuck on the most basic of tasks, due to lack of instructions.
Also, it says "create a manifest". What file format is a manifest? I can create it in a text based app just like the examples, but no instructions on what format to save as.
Same issue with the .brs file.
I am familiar with logging into my linux server and running commands, and that uses ip address + authentication.
What should I be using?
Thanks in advance

Re: How Do I Start Developing a Channel?
I was able to get all of this working in a plain-vanilla text editor.
