Perhaps something in their web cms is awry with regard to standard vs. developer accounts?
just signed up my moms account to be a developer account to test this. The normal developer program registration still gives you access to the required tools on the website. I think it was just a confusion of the need for 2 different registrations (the one for the owner account and then another for the developer account.)

Re: How Do I Start Developing a Channel?
I thought you could develope a channel and offer it free or PPV. I just read
http://www.roku.com/Libraries/Legal/Rok ... .sflb.ashx
In the Introduction it states;
The Content of this Channel Application will only be accessible by end users who agree to pay a fee to view it on their Players.
Any idea how much they are charging??????

Re: How Do I Start Developing a Channel?
The SLA for premium developers, I believe, only applies to channels the developer wants to utilize the SLA with, you can still develop free channels, otherwise the minimum is .99, again, I believe this to be correct.
I know you can develop either free channels or pay channels, the pay channels using the premium developers account use Roku's billing system.

Re: How Do I Start Developing a Channel?
Yes, you can develop free channels. The system is very similar to the Apple App store, with Roku channels be analogous to iphone apps. A channel can be free, or cost some amount ending in 99 cents ($0.99, $1.99, $2.99, etc). The charge can be a one time, or recurring monthly or weekly. It's very easy to test/install your own channel on your unit for testing, requiring no registration with Roku whatsoever, just "side-load" the channel using the developer interface as described in the SDK documents. To have your channel accessible through the store or privately through a code (including vanity codes), you have to submit it to Roku's developer system, which DOES require registering as a developer.

Re: How Do I Start Developing a Channel?

I was just a little concerned, since in the agreement it only states
The Content of this Channel Application will only be accessible by end users who agree to pay a fee to view it on their Players.
BUT, I LIKE FREE..................
Looking forward to getting started

If you log in here: https://owner.roku.com/
There should be a "Developer Site" link at the top of the page. If you don't see that, then you may not be logging in with the same account that you registered as a developer with. If you do see it, does clicking it take you to the DevHome page?

Re: How Do I Start Developing a Channel?
Thanks. I've done all that and I still end up at http://www.roku.com/developer no matter what I do. I've contacted support and they got back to me and said I should contact partners@roku.com, which I have done. We'll see what happens. I'll keep you posted! 🙂 No pun intended!
I'm looking forward to working with the SDK.
Thanks again for your help!

Re: How Do I Start Developing a Channel?
Is there a site that developers can post code to?
This would be the whole channel or parts of there code?
I am looking for more that the examples that come with the SDK.
Thanks

Re: How Do I Start Developing a Channel?
If you look through the posts on this forum there is a bit of code given within. Unfortunately I think there are so few developers that there doesn't seem to be a lot of innovation yet.
