HLS playback manual handling?

Hello!

Is there a way to manually control HLS video playback?
Parse (or generate programmatically) a manifest, handle/redirect segments requests and so on?

Sorry if it's noted in some docs, I didn't yet found anything.
Would be grateful for any help/advice!
