Guidance on Closed Captions

Does anyone at Roku have any input in how to implement Closed Captions? Suggestions are very welcome.

We are already going to have to package an SD stream and an HD stream, it would suck to have to package an SD stream, HD stream, SD with Closed Captions, HD with Closed Captions.

Does the Roku box have a setting that enables Closed Captions embedded in an H.264 stream? Heck, can Closed Captions even be embedded in an H.264 stream without "overlaying" them?

Re: Guidance on Closed Captions

Currently there is no support for closed captioning (unless the captions are part of the video image of course).

Coming

Is closed caption support something that Roku is looking at?

Re: Guidance on Closed Captions

I thought that if the Close caption file was part of the video your TV could decode it and show it as it shows CC from any source.

That would be open captioning not closed.

At the most basic level, is it possible to dynamically overlay text or a text window on video that is currently being played through the SDK?

It is not currently possible to overlay text on the videoplayer.
