Channel Submission

Roku, I recently submitted an update package for my channel. I was thinking, it would be nice if there was some way to keep the DEVs informed of the channel testing progress. Like what is their submission's position in the queue ? (123 of 1000) I submitted a package over a week ago and got the customary automatic "Thank You" email message. I also sent a couple of emails to Joel last week and the start of this week, "How's it going", "Did you forget me ?" and they got no response. I realize that you guys are busy with thousands of channels to review but it would really be beneficial to both you (less emails) and us DEVs (pins and needles) to have some sort of status that we can check and make sure that you really got it and things are progressing.

Re: Channel Submission

I hate to suggest this, but throwing some analytics or seeing if your channel is hitting some server somewhere has proved to be invaluable in my personal curiosity on how testing is progressing.

It's bad, I've been software engineering in some manner or another for quite some time now, and I still hope hearing nothing about my software means everything is going fantastic....and it always means, "Oh, I haven't looked at it yet."

Re: Channel Submission

Yes, I can tell IF and WHEN they start from server access.
My private channel is at the same level that I submitted to Roku. And I have had over 400 people use it without any complaints.

Re: Channel Submission

I also submitted a new version of my channels last week, and patiently waiting for approval. I also emailed Joel but haven't heard from him yet. The folks at Roku must be drowned under requests, or they are short on staff...!

By the meantime, I'm having some paid members that contact me, inquiring how soon the channels they paid for will be back online. My old CDN stopped their live streaming activities and I had to update the Roku app in a hurry to work with a new provider. The old app no longer works, and my paid subscribers wait, but I don't know how long I can keep them waiting before they cancel their subscriptions. :?

Hope it won't be too long before Roku approve my apps.

Re: Channel Submission

Currently the queue, from experience, appears to be 3 weeks or just slightly more.

I have one channel that I submitted and had to re-submit due to some changes that needed made that has now been waiting a total of two months, getting a little frustrated waiting on that one to go through.

More than likely this is probably due to everyone wanting their channel / channel update to be in the store for the Christmas holiday period.

Re: Channel Submission

A friend of mine told me last weekend that it took 5 weeks before his channel gets reviewed and approved.

So I'll wait, and hope I don't lose too many subscribers by the meantime. That's a lot of promotional efforts I made to win them, now I might lose quite a few because of long administrative delays. Oh, well...

Re: Channel Submission

Mine just made it. I guess they are really ripping through that backlog.
But it would be really nice if there was a way for us DEVs to check the status without bothering them !

Re: Channel Submission

Absolutely.
Something like those chat session where you can see the technicians are serving other customers, and you're number 'X' in the waiting list. That would be perfect!

Re: Channel Submission

I first submitted mine on September 11th. October 14th I got notified that they started testing it. That same day they emailed me asking if I could change what port my channel was listening on (since it interfered with their testing devices). After I submitted an update with the change they asked for I never heard from them again.
