roku remote going haywire on its own

My roku remote (simple roku remote if that helps at all) goes completely haywire once the tv is on.

first, it automatically enters netflix and the mute button will be spammed as if someone is clicking it repeatedly. if I can manage to enter an account, the left arrow is spammed along with the mute button. currently it switched to spamming the volume button, so the volume is increasing. all other buttons are unresponsive. to turn off my tv I have to literally pull the cable from the outlet. also, for some odd reason, the remote will turn on the tv despite the issue even if I don't press the power button.

I've tried everything possible with the limitations I have. I've already established that the issue isn't low battery or the tv itself. any solutions or anyone having this same issue?
