Hello,
I have two of the Streaming stick devices with the voice remote and standard batteries. Frequently, the remote has been failing to function, it may be able to turn on TV, but cannot be recognized by Roku device. After checking batteries, still no luck.
I have tried to "disconnect" but it usually does not work. I can use the "reset" button on stick, but then i have a factory reset which requires an awful lot of configuration and sign-ins before regaining functionality. I loved the Roku ease of use, but this situation is unacceptable. What can be done?
My remote is doing the same thing. It still controls the TV volume and power just fine, so it’s not a battery issue, the remote is on, it just won’t control the Roku. This just started out of nowhere after having this particular Roku 4k for about a year. Worked perfect up to this point.
I have also noticed it has been laggy with the controls recently as well. I am not 100% how the remote interacts with the Roku whether it’s line of sight or over Wi-Fi but it seems whatever the connection is, it’s been getting worse for no reason and now it’s completely failing.
Is this designed obsolescence?
@Jason0u, the TV controls are completely separate from the Roku controls (unless you're using CEC which you're apparently not), so it's possible for them to work while the Roku controls do not. The Roku controls use Wi-Fi Direct which in general takes more power than simple IR, so if you haven't given new batteries a try you should. It's also possible for the remote to lose its pairing in which case the TV controls will continue to work, but the Roku controls will not. You may want to try pairing it again if new batteries don't fix it.

New batteries. Why didn’t I think of that. That’s like calling tech support and them telling you to restart your computer. The very first line of the troubleshooting tree. Thanks.
I changed from the 5ghz network to the 2ghz network and it started working again. So it wasn’t a battery issue thanks. It is a connectivity issue. Nothing with my network changed on the 5 ghz band so there really shouldn’t be a reason for it to suddenly drop connectivity or lag as it has been. Other than hardware problem. But what do I know.
