Roku ultra rechargeable remote not working correctly

Jump to solution

I have a rechargeable remote for my Roku ultra that is not working correctly.

It was fully charged when it stopped working correctly. I have attempted to unplug the roku, I have also put it back on the charger to see if maybe it's not holding it's charge, no changes.

The remote will turn on the tv, however it will do nothing else. Will not go to the home menu, quick buttons don't work not even the volume control. It can only turn the tv on and off.

Prior to the last time I turned off the Roku the remote had a freak out session. I hit the mute button and when I unmuted it. It exited out of youtube went to Disney+ then raised the volume, went to Apple+ that was when I took my other remote and turned off the tv. Since then it has not worked correctly.

The Roku sku# I have is 4802R

Well, it kind of sounds like the remote has failed.  Maybe it's something simple like a stuck button.  Try plucking at all of them or strumming them or anything you can think of that might get a stuck button unstuck.  The remote should be covered by the same 1 year warranty as the device.

Keep in mind that anytime you're asked for a serial number they want the serial number of the Roku device, not the remote.  You can find it under your linked devices at https://my.roku.com .

@Pattypattch-

It could be all you need to do is restart your Roku.   Since you don't have decent control via the remote at the moment, you can do this by unplugging it from its power source for a short time then plugging it back in.

We're seeing lots of erratic remote response complaints lately.  A restart has fixed many of them, at least temporarily.

Unfortunately I have left the Roku unplugged for several hours in hopes it would reset itself and correct the issue already. This method was unsuccessful.

@Pattypattch, have you tried pairing the remote again?  Press and hold the button on the back until the green light starts flashing and then connect the power to the 4802.  Set the remote down next to the Roku and don't touch it until you get confirmation that the remote paired.

Yes, I have and it's definitely paired with it, the locator button on the Roku works to find the remote (and the remote does its whistle).
