Re: Roku TV remote volume button has 10-15 second delay before changing volume

Welcome to the Roku Community, @EdontheBeach!

Thank you for bringing this issue to our attention. We would be grateful if you could provide any additional information that may help us assist you more effectively.

Could you please tell us which Roku device you have? Also, could you please share with us the type of Roku remote you have? Is there a pairing button at the back of the remote?

We also suggest pressing and holding the Back and Home buttons simultaneously for about 30 seconds to reset your remote. After doing so, re-pair it again to see if this will make any difference.

Hope this helps!

Thanks,
Jharra

Re: Roku TV remote volume button has 10-15 second delay before changing volume

Already did that - no luck.

I bought a new 32" Roku TV on Dec 8 - All was good until the last few days.  I've rebooted the TV and rebooted the remote...it has fresh batteries.  All else works as it should but the volume toggle takes 10-15 seconds to respond.

It's really annoying.

Re: Roku TV remote volume button has 10-15 second delay before changing volume

@EdontheBeach-

I'm struggling trying to figure out what would cause the response delay you're describing.  Is this a delayed response after a short button press, or do you have to hold the button down that long before it "takes"?

There are several components to response to remote commands:

  • What the remote itself does in reaction to the keypress.  The reply from @RokuJharra-Q is meant to address this.
  • Transmission of the signal from the remote to the Roku.  Unless this TV came with a Voice remote, the remote sends its commands over a infrared (IR) beam directly to the TV.  Be sure you've got clear line of sight from the remote to the IR receiver in the front of the set (usually somewhere beneath the display).  Also, IR can be interfered with by other sources of IR radiation like direct sunlight and some fluorescent lighting.
  • How the Roku itself reacts to the signal issued by the remote.  Have you tried restarting your Roku TV?  Settings / System / Power / System restart.

Re: Roku TV remote volume button has 10-15 second delay before changing volume

Ha!  Yes, I'm 'struggling' with it as well.  As I mentioned above, I've restarted both the TV and the remote and I've installed fresh batteries, but I still have to hold the volume toggle for 10-15 seconds before there is any volume response.  This was not the case until only a few days ago, it is a very recent issue.

All other functions work properly indicating no line if sight impediment to the remote.

I had hoped this was a known and semi-common glitch for which there would be a simple fix - apparently it is not a common problem.

Given all this the only thing logically left to assume is that, in less than a month, the volume toggle on my simple remote is faulty and needs to be replaced.

Before I started with this Roku Community page I went through all the trouble shooting procedures found on Roku web site.  I also tried calling customer support, the 1st effort said my wait time was estimated to be 30 mins. - the second effort estimated 40 mins.  I'm not gonna wait that long to hear either I have to return the TV or that Roku would not instead simply replace the remote.
