I have a Roku Ultra model 4640X that was given to me. It's plugged in to HDMI port and powered up. The remote I received with it did not work and was an incorrect model. I reset the Roku using the reset button on the case, probably a big mistake. On startup, I got to the language selection screen and then the "Pair your remote" pop up screen. I tried to pair with a known good remote, but older model, no luck.
So I bought a new Roku voice remote (RCA1RW) assuming this would fix the problem. The Roku box is powered up and shows the pairing screen on the TV. When I press the back and home buttons together, I get a blinking green light, but no indication of pairing. Of course I can't go in with my phone since the wifi can't find the Roku (not set up yet).
Surely, this can't be a hopeless situation, but it sure feels like it. I know the Roku is good, and the remote just came out of the Roku box. Help!

I managed to resolve m own problem. I tried using a USB link from my phone to the Roku...no luck there. So I connected my Roku to my router with an Ethernet cable. The Roku was happy with a direct connect and allowed me to initiate setup with my phone. At some point I tried my new remote and it worked fine once a data link was present. So crisis averted and I'm a happy Roku camper again. Hope this helps, as I have not seen this approach much.
