Simple remotes don't connect. You point it at the front of the TV and it either works or it doesn't. If it doesn't, it's either a bad remote or a bad sensor in the TV. You can try a cheap universal remote that supports Roku TVs or purchase a Voice Remote that has to be paired to your TV, but it doesn't rely on the sensor in the TV.
