Re: Video Ads Autoplaying on Homescreen

Roku should not put this into their TV operating systems because there is no way to bypass the TV OS on those TVs, unlike almost all other TV OSs. It's a horrible user experience.

Roku should not put this into their streaming players because it is an even worse user experience. I want to listen to my music, so I have to watch a movie ad? That makes no sense.

I really like rokus and I recommend them to all my family members. But if full screen ads starts invading users' homes, I'll be forced to recommend TV apps or Apple TV box.

FWIW, I went to settings - > privacy - > reset advertising id. Then went through and unmarked personalized ads and whatever else advertising I could find, and opted out. Then I unplugged the box for a good 15 minutes. Seems to have stopped the pop ad for now.

Re: Video Ads Autoplaying on Homescreen

Just got my first video add yesterday and am not happy about it! If they don't roll it back, I will switch to Apple TV. It sucks because I like the Roku UI and the WiFi Direct remote with the headphone jack, but I refuse to be subjected to adds before I open a streaming service that subjects me to adds!

Re: Video Ads Autoplaying on Homescreen

Got my first auto playing ad waking it up. I've been with them since it was the Netflix Player, Roku DVP N1000 back in the late 2000's

I woke my RCA TV up from the screensaver, hit home and got mine on the home screen. The audio played, also. Moana commercial.

This has annoyed the heck out of me. The audio most of all.

Getting an ad just for turning it on or waking it up is such an intrusion.

I never should have bought a TV with the OTT OS like Roku. Monitors and externals from here on out.

To think, every time I wake this up I could get an auto playing ad, ugh.

I hope it is just a test. May have to take it offline for good. Did take the RokuTV  I use as a computer monitor offline. I rarely use it for watching programming, but I do wake it up or turn it on often.

Also, if this was a test, I never signed up to be a test subject. How can you opt-out. In most dev communities, test subjects can give back feedback.

I sent an email to the Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment and BlackRock over it for their forced marketing campaign and the negative feedback Moana is getting.

Like the OP, I got upset at Amazon over their ad spam and I have one I won't use that has been in the drawer forever.

Is it Time to Abandon Roku for a Better User, Less intrusive Homescreen Experiance??!!

There was a time when Roku was a simple streaming appliance. Now all i see are ads being pushed onto my homescreen. This is NOT why I purchased Roku. I want an ad-free experience, just like when Roku first came out. Not this hot mess.

Re: Video Ads Autoplaying on Homescreen

Had this happen to me too after I turned the screen saver off and went to the Home screen, a Moana 2 trailer. This really does NOT need to happen, I am not ready to replace my TV, I like my Roku TV a lot, but I might consider if this starts to become a constant thing. I don't need to see an ad before playing my Series X, PS2, or Switch, using my computer, or watching something I want to watch (that isn't a pop up ad).

Re: Video Ads Autoplaying on Homescreen

Long time Roku customer. Like pre-video days. Remember the SoundBridge days? I'm here because I want someone to know just how concerned I am with the recent attempts to take over the living room.

Roku should remember that aggressive commercials have led to the near implosion of Satellite and Cable TV industry. Please stop attempting brutalize the users at home entertainment experience. Please don't make the Roku experience a toxic one for your customers.

Re: Video Ads Autoplaying on Homescreen

wanted to watch Moana 2, but now I can't out of principle because of this dumb ad that autoplayed when I turned on my Roku. Also, who thought it was a great idea to turn on autoplay ads as a "test"? This isn't something that even needs to be tested. Nobody wants this. Please kill this "feature" so I don't have to replace my Rokus with a less user-hostile streaming box.
