System crash no apps working, narrating wont stop

Since my narrating won't stop on my roku 4800x ultra, now it won't open any apps, Paramount still have the narrator even when it's shut off. I have unplugged and restarted my device over and over and it still isn't working. HELP PLEASE!

Re: System crash no apps working, narrating wont stop

@boydz1977, when you say "narrator", are you referring to a robotic voice that reads menus or a voice that describes the action in a video?  They are two very different and unrelated things.  The robotic voice is the "Screen reader" and can be turned off in the Roku Settings menu.  The voice describing action in a video is part of the audio track.  The way to turn it off is to choose a different audio track.  Some apps have a way to choose the audio track before starting a video and others use the Roku default way of pressing * while a video is playing and then going into "Accessibility & language" and choosing a different audio track.

As for your Ultra not working, could you provide more details?  Does it boot to the Home Screen?  You may just have to pair the remote again.

@boydz1977-

After a factory reset, the Roku is returned to its new just-out-of-the box condition.  If you haven't already, you must set it up all over again from scratch to get it to work.

As for the narration in the programs:

Some programs contain multiple audio tracks that can be selected, such as different languages or verbal action descriptions for the visually impaired.

The Roku default method of accessing your choice of audio track is to press the * key on your Roku remote while viewing the program and examining the options presented.

But more and more channels are not using the Roku default but instead substituting their own method of access -- I'm guessing this is so they will have consistent controls with versions of their app running on platforms other than Roku.  Often these options are accessed by pressing the up and/or down cursor control keys while viewing the program to pop the channel's own control options on the screen.
