Does a factory reset wipe out all channels?

Re: Error 004 happening again and again
I would try a soft reset before opting for a full one. I did a soft reset and it left most of the channels and apps intact. It appeared to remove a few but everything I used remained. However it did require a new log in for youtube, but otherwise it was relatively painless experience.

Software update error 004
After downloading the latest software for my Roku Express (on March 12 2025) as the install progresses I get “Can’t update software. Please try later”.
Error 004.

Re: [Under investigation] Can't Update Software - Error 004
I am also getting this issue; sometimes my roku forces the update on power-up (no choice to skip).
After the attempt fails, the screen background comes up with no content (channel icons and widgets are missing).
However, once this happens, it seems that I can turn my TV off and on and when the roku boots again, another update notification box appears but it offers a skip option and I can get to normal operation.
Roku support: Please post a sticky comment on this thread when the issue is solved.
My device: Model 3930CA
Current vesion: 14.5.

Re: [Under investigation] Can't Update Software - Error 004
I followed the instructions posted by waylonjames:
Disconnect router
On the remote, push the home button 5 times
Push the fast forward button 3 times
Push the rewind button 2 times
A screen should pop up giving you several options. I chose "soft reset". Then I reconnected my router. The update was successful.

Re: [Under investigation] Can't Update Software - Error 004
I haven't spoken to anyone at ROKU and I doubt that I ever will. The technical support at ROKU is scarce and maybe non exsistent. My issue is with what I expect to be a corrupted memory. When updating the update stops at 81%. At this time I get an error code 004. The message says "Can't update at this time, please try again later" I have tried many times but just the same thing over and over. I had to hunt down the phone number for ROKU and I called them, but only got a phone tree asking to leave a message or describe the problem. ROKU's are good while there working, however, when there down there doesn't seem to be anyone around to help solve the issue.

Re: [Under investigation] Can't Update Software - Error 004
Update: I rebooted my router and then the update was able to continue.
I did also try plugging the usb cable into a charger adaptor but that didn't work. It seems that the problem was related to the router or some interaction between the router and the roku device.
