UPDATE!!! 4/26/2022 10PM EDT
I just updated to BUILD 4184-11
And my external USB HDD is now working in Roku Media Player.
They've resolved it!
Update your firmware!
Thanks so much for letting us know about a working update.! I truly appreciate it! I hooked mine back up and it is recognized and playing a video. Yay!
Thank you tech team!
Same problem. How do I update to that build? My Roku says it is up to date, that it checks for updates every day.
So, please, how do I update to that build?
Many thanks.
This problem was solved in April, when Roku updated their firmware to rectify the error. My current firmware version is 11.5.0, I don't know if attempting a manual update is more effective that the routine automatic update but I guess it's worth a try.
I am on 11.5.4235. I have two devices running the same build and no luck.
Anything I can do? I tried powering down and re-starting. Nothing worked.
Any help will be appreciated.
I have the same firmware/build version you do and my drive works well.
Assuming a) your drive used to work with your Roku but no longer does and b) that there’s nothing wrong with the drive itself (i.e. it works as expected when connected to a computer), I’m not sure what other help to offer, sorry.
Thanks anyway.
A year later now I'm having the same problem, Two of my Roku devices do NOT recognize USB external, either flash or hard drive with the ext4 file system. what gives?
it does work with a fat32 filesystem, so obviously some coder forgot to add the other file types?
Other Roku users or Roku support will need to handle this one. I used my Roku last night (7/7/23) with an external hard drive and had no problem. Sorry I cannot be of more assistance.
@bvt, Roku devices have never supported ext4.
