Re: Parent Controls for Home Screen Ads

Sorry but, you are all wasting your time with the FCC. Roku is streaming not broadcast. FCC only has authority on broadcast stuff.

This needs to happen immediately. I am not OK with the ads that are popping up on my children’s TVs. We have seven TVs in our home and all our Roku TVs. This needs to be fixed immediately.

@Gpalms  Roku or Firestick are not showing porn, drugs, swearing or sex. Streaming does not follow the same rules as cable tv or satellite. Ads or commercials can only be filtered if they have a Nielsen rating. That means a commercial or ad would have to say "TV-MA,TV-14,TV-G" with it. But as of today there is no such thing. I highly suggest everyone read the FCC rules.

An ad for the movie "IT" is not in any violation of the FCC. The Roku platform does not have any sort of parental controls. Just like any child can launch Netflix, Prime, Hulu or whatever else channel you might have installed.

@Gpalms

As mentioned previously in the several posts about this topic, there is no such functionality. Not on Roku, not on Amazon Fire TV, not on Google/Android TV. Apple TV doesn't do ads, so it's not applicable.

If you want Roku to implement such a functionality or feature as rating and filtering of ads, then I suggest using the Suggest a Feature page. A post on a user forum isn't a request. Submitting a request is a request, and you start with that page.

We're not asking to not do ads. We are asking for the ability to block/hide inappropriate content. I can confirm that on Google Chrome my kids have their own account and they only see children friendly ads not half naked women, bloody knives/ people and no other content I do not approve of. The chromecast w/ streaming is a great alternative and I have already bought three.

Celticsfan, no I'm not I have three streaming devices called the chrome cast w/ Google TV. They cost 39.99 here is the link https://www.bestbuy.com/site/chromecast-with-google-tv-4k-snow/6425976.p?skuId=6425976&ref=212&loc=1...

Not laptops a streaming device pick one up so you know exactly what and how it works. It does have the option to create a child friendly account then add the streaming apps you want for your children as well as age appropriate advertising.

@BrianBB  I am fully aware of how a Chromecast works. It is part of Googles ecosystem. It is all accomplished through Googles Family link. Family link lets parents create a kids profile to use on a Chromebook or Chromecast and other Google devices. That is entirely different. Roku is not have laptops or phones.

Roku, you suck. Enough said. I paid full price for my TCL tv with Roku menu system, but you choose to fill my home with images from h e l l, merely because I'm in the tv's menu system choosing a channel. I will never ever ever ever ever ever ever ever buy a Roku product again, and will use my full influence with friends and family to steer them away from your greedy, salacious ad-saturated products. It would be one thing if you allowed us to bypass or turn these ads off. But my home is my sanctuary, and your tv menu software is a piece of dung that mars the sanctity of my home. By the way, your opinion of what is "acceptable" in an advertisement poster is 100% irrelevant in this matter. The only thing that matters is my opinion of what is acceptable in my home.

@NomoreAds

Roku has ads on the home page.

Amazon Fire TV has ads on the home page.

Android/Google TV has ads on the home page.

Apple TV doesn't have obvious ads, rather they will promote suggestions of Apple TV+ original content.

So, pick your poison.
