it's sooo bad!
just logged in here for the first time ever because i can't stand how large and in the way this banner is. then the clicks are different. seems like the mgrs implementing this stuff trying to promote certain content (or preparing to) instead of actually listening to their users.
its been 10+ years on roku tvs for me but whatever the mgrs in the last 1 year or so have been doing, ut just keeps make it worse and worse where i also am using my tablo and plex soo much more now just to avoid these absolutely unnecessary, poorly implemented changes
Beginning today I can no longer select the live TV input and view both antenna and streaming channels. I now only get antenna channels. I have to go from the home screen and scroll down to the live TV selection and over to the live TV channel guide for streaming. This is inconvenient because now I can't quickly jump from antenna shows to streaming shows
@BatmanJimmyRoku doesn't care, unfortunately.
Neither do they care that it takes 7+ clicks to change the channel when browsing favorites, which is how most people browse the channel guide because there are so many channels.
A real solution would be Plex + a compatible OTA device like HDHomeRun. Plex learned many years ago not to treat customers like Roku is doing today and losing customers over it.
I have basically switched yo plex over this, nut m8ss 2 features.
1. It is nice to have the button that let's you toggle back and forth between channels with one click.
2. And as mentioned earlier, it would be nice to also have the antennae channels.
Yeah Plex isn't an exact replacement, it sucks that you need an additional device that's compatible with Plex to add OTA channels to its Live TV guide.
AT LEAST it automatically integrates your OTA channels with its Live TV guide and uses its own metadata/airing information, which I think is better than OTA guide data.
It's the only solution that replaces the exact functionality of Roku with like 90% of the same live channels, but admittedly, you need additional hardware and a Plex Pass subscription for use with OTA tuners, which is why this is messed up. Most people have no other option but to put up with Roku's nonsense.
It's baffling to me that Roku doesn't see a huge problem with how their guide operates. If they keep the banner, it shouldn't default back to it every time you want to change the channel, and it should stay in the section you browse, like favorites, before leaving to access other channels, for example. When I go to favorites, then I change the channel, I should simply see the next channel in my favorites, I shouldn't have to press buttons 7+ times, to get to the next channel and view its guide data. THAT'S INSANE.
The Google TV live guide is nearly perfect, with the antenna channels under a tuner label, certain streaming services (Pluto, Tubi, Philo) integrated in categories, and a favorites option that puts any channels you choose from all your options at the top of the page. Also has the 1 click return when using your antenna. They could learn a bit from Plex, but both are leaving Roku in the dust now.
Solid recommendation. The main difference would be that you can install Plex and get a compatible OTA tuner for any Roku TV or really any device since Plex is compatible and plays on everything, and Google TV comes on select Google TV's and isn't available in the Roku app store, neither do I see it when googling if it's on Tizen (Samsung) or Amazon Fire.
Google TV the best all-in-one replacement, don't get me wrong.
Plex + a tuner is a cheaper for most people than a new TV, that's all.
AND if you don't care about OTA, like much of the rural US, which only gets a few channels, Plex is totally free. Just install it on your Roku TV or device and open the Live Guide.
Still a great option, just an important functionality difference for anyone reading these comments and figuring out what to do, what platform to possibly switch to.
This has got to be one of the most annoying things I have ever encountered and I have not been able to find a way to stop it. At least when favorites appeared on the Home Screen a couple of years ago I was able to shut that off. The old live tv guide worked just fine for me. The new MIGHT be acceptable if the tv went to the channel I was watching instead of defaulting to the guide when live tv is selected but, even then, I liked it better when I had to select favorites from the list on the left. In fact, that is how I still access my favorites when switching from antenna to streaming channels. The guide was okay before. Please put it back the way it was and quit screwing with it. I am starting to miss Dish.
I find the banner at the top of the guide to be extremely annoying. I don’t even know what it is supposed to be showing. Most recently viewed favorites maybe except it doesn’t show antenna channels and I am not sure some of the channels are in my favorites. I know it doesn’t show all of my favorites. Navigating the guide with the banner popping up with the guide is cumbersome because you can’t navigate up when you open the guide to change channel. I think the best fix is for the banner to go away.
