eARC and CEC not working properly on new Philips/roku OLED
TV is excellent, Roku os is a dream to use,, just running into some functionality issues that appear to be software/firmware related. My setup isn’t too crazy, an Xbox and AV system. Audio and picture quality are exceptional. There’s some issues I’m encountering with common av standards however that aren’t working as designed/advertised. It’s a new release, so I guess I’m an involuntary beta tester :). But they’ve got a hit on their hands if they address below.
Product: new Philips Roku 974 series Oled tv from Sam’s club.
Model #: 65OLED974/F7
Issue(s):
1. HDMI CEC not finding CEC compatible devices including Xbox one and Sony str-dh790 AV receiver
2. eARC not controlling volume or turning off Sony AV receiver - but it worked 1 week ago. AUDIO IS working, but the Roku remote no longer controls AV receiver volume as of 3/18.
When “auto” is selected, it defaults to tv speakers=active, but outputs sound to both the tv AND the AV receiver - which creates latency. 1 week ago, I didn’t have this problem.
I performed a factory reset, and have verified all external devices are configured correctly. I called Philips to troubleshoot but was told to just exchange the tv
I did - at great inconvenience to myself repackaging and exchanging, hanging replacement tv on the wall etc But nope, same issue. The tv I returned was perfectly fine (very wasteful and costly to Philips/roku).
issue 1: (CEC) has never worked.
issue 2: (eARC) worked 1 week ago, doesn’t not work as of 3/18.
- doesn’t control av volume, “auto” doesn’t see earc, now broadcasts audio to tv speakers AND AV system simultaneously.
I believe both issues are software/firmware issues, I believe the second issue was probably a system update that broke functionality.
I opened a support ticket with Roku who was helpful (but it took a long time). Philips argued with me stating my serial numbers weren’t right and weren’t helpful. I don’t know who owns the problem, but it’s an easy fix and someone needs to own it. Tv works great I just don’t want to juggle 5 remotes - whole reason earc and CEC exist.
