Been having the same issue with a Bose soundbar plugged in the eARC. It was working flawlessly up until two weeks ago. But now the sound does go through but no way to change it with the remote. CEC control also shows inactive. That sucks. Been planning on upgrading my Roku but staying with them but now I'm very hesitant after reading through this thread
Thanks! Did all that you suggested multiple times, and the result is still the same. So, I gave up and went and got new equipment. Now things work, as intended, although not perfectly. ARC & eARM has some issues with their compatibility with equipment from different manufacturers that's frustrating customers and needs fixing.
Make sure the HDMI Cable says "Ethernet"
I hope this helps at least someone, my vizio soundbar that has been hooked up for years and working fine decided to stop allowing volume control but it still worked at the last volume and via soundboard remote. It wasn't showing up in cec and volume control was inactive.
After a bunch of trial and error. What I did was unplug both the soundboard and tv from power, while still connected via eArc and pressed the power button for 15 seconds on both tv and soundbar to drain out any residual power. Plugged them both back into power and miraculously it worked immediatley
Thanks for trying but the soundbar has never worked though earc . The soundbar worked perfectly on my old Roku tv (that died) . Case open with Roku and nothing after a year!!!!!!!!
Update: Contacted Roku and worked with advanced support and they say it is supposed to work with the Vizio Soundbar and they are sending a NEW TV to replace this one. When it arrives I will let everyone know what the results are.
I just got a surround sound system gifted to me with a blue ray player from samsung. After following all instructions to connect it to the roku tv and testing the speakers for sound through the blue ray interface which they all had sound, I went into netflix and nothing. I tried various things in the audio and system setting but of course like stated all over the forum there is no option to enable EARC and it still shows as inactive under CEC. The weird thing is the roku remote works to control the volume of the blue ray player, and the tv seems to recognize it yet I never get any sound. I've tried swapping hdmi cables, unplugging, checking for updates, searching through the blue ray settings, and nothing has worked.
UPDATE ON THE SAGA OF THE EARC.
Well, Roku came out and swapped out the TV and it still does not work, however I did find out one SERIOUS issue with this TV. It comes with the Roku Voice Remote Pro. When I first installed the new TV it started using the Roku Voice Remote Pro (without the pairing) so I continued the setup and completed it.
I then put my sound bar in learning mode (volume up, volume down, mute) and low and behold it worked! I could then control my volume on the soundbar with the remote (using the Optical interface). Now this went on for about a month and then I decided to actually pair the remote (so I could see the battery indicator). As soon as I paired the remote the programing of the remote TURNED OFF THE IR INTERFACE!
If you do a factory reset on the voice remote pro and point your camera at the IR interface while pushing the volume up button you can see the IR signal (purple light picked up by your cell phones camera). As soon as you pair it they turn off the IR signal. Now that "might" make sense IF you could actually control stuff via eARC, however when using the Optical interface it makes NO sense to turn it off.
They need to either leave the IR interface on ALL THE TIME or have an option to turn it on or off.
I ended up grabbing another Roku remote that worked with the TV (from an Insignia) and then used it's IR to program the soundbar.
Come on Roku, what's it going to take???
Having the same issue for months now,
Any news from Roku support?
