Roku Streambar and Hearing Aids

Jump to solution

I am trying to connect a Resound TV Streamer 2 to my Roku Streambar SE so that I can simultaneously listen to the TV through my hearing aids while other family members listen through the Streambar speaker.  The optical plug on the Roku seems to be an input and not an output so it does not supply sound to the Resound Streamer 2.  I had hoped that because HDMI/ARC is a 2-way connection, that the Roku Soundbar sound would flow back to the TV and I could use the TV's digital output, but no sound there as well.  I've seen the suggestion to use private listening.  This works fabulously if I am watching alone, but doesn't help when other people watch with me, as private listening mutes the Roku speaker.  Has anyone found a solution that allows simultaneous listening through hearing aids and the Roku Streambar speaker?

With the price of hearing aids coming way down, I wouldn't describe this capability as "unique".

I too use a Resound TV Streamer 2, and wanted to use it with my Roku 4K Streaming Stick.  I found a $15 HDMI Audio extractor on Amazon that works great with the Roku 4K stick and my Resound streamer. Here's a link:

You may want to give it a look.

Thanks EdH.  I tried a few configurations and came up with something similar using my TV's optical TOSLINK output and a splitter to send the sound to both the Resound streamer and a soundbar.  To make this work, I had to take out the Roku Streambar and replace with a Roku Ultra. Apparently because the soundbar has sound, it somehow tells the TV not to send sound to the TV speakers, optical, or any other sound output channel.
