Re: Adult channels and Adult section

Jump to solution

No, they are ending private/non-listed channels(you know the ones that require a code to get? yeah those). The only way we will get adult channels on Roku after that happens is to convince Roku an adult section is needed. I know though that the only way that will happen is to have all adult activities require a pin.

No, go read it again, they are booting anything "Adult Content" related. It is indeed a targeted removal.

Re: Roku New Censorship..........

So what is a Roku alternative that doesn't censor its channels? I've had enough of YouTube, Facebook, Twitter, etc all censoring and de-platforming anything that goes against the narrative of its advertisers and funders, I want a totally open streaming device.  I don't need a service telling me what I should or shouldn't watch.  Suggestions/recommendations anyone?

@Props, show a quote from Roku@atc98092 , is correct - all private/uncertified channels are being removed.  It just so happens that all adult channels have always been private channels.  I personally have received ~50 emails from Roku for my personal private channels that I've developed that are being removed none of which are adult channels.

Dude, calm down. Think you're the only one with yearly subscriptions? Lobbing marshmallow threats is not the way to enter debate nor negotiations. I'm a unionized performer in the industry and appreciate your support, but we need to be the professional adults that we are with this issue.  #1: Private Channels when provided are clearly defined as "Unmonitored and Unsupported" by Roku. Roku clearly stated it has the right to remove unsupported or private channels at any time without prior notice (seems you got prior notice!) for any reason and specifically if said channel is in violation of regional jurisdiction content laws or is providing content that violates ROKU community standards. They stated they don't monitor private channels constantly and some content may be offensive to some individuals.

Instagram is in the same position. There is hardcore pornography being shown in various forms, even with children, on 35 "Live" stream chatrooms 24hrs a day! Bet you didn't know that? Article 25 protects Multimedia/Media platforms froEm legal action (Immunity) if platform is unaware of content unloaded or displayed by it's members. Ever wonder why you are unable to get in touch with ANY FACEBOOK SUPPORT STAFF LIVE? Or even an email reply? Now you know! If they acknowledged receiving your complaint and couldn't stop porn attacks (its what they are, mostly from India and Pakistan, I'm tracing daily!) they lose Article 25 immunity, and Government will have their dream fulfilled - Regulated Censorship On A Level Nobody Wants! So, Big Brother Controlling you, or Big Tech Supporting You? Keep throwing a tantrum and Big Brother will have you monitored every time you fart! Private Channels facilitated by Roku does not put ownership of channel content in ROKU hands, except for adding in removing channel availability!

We do not make (or imply) any endorsement or recommendation of these products or services, which are subject to their own terms and policies (including data privacy and data gathering practices), and any charges or obligations you incur in your dealings with them, which are your responsibility and done at your own risk (Roku is not responsible or liable for those interactions or the products or services they provide to you).

Noncertified/Private Channels deleted?

Jump to solution

So now ROKU is playing the Facebook game and deleting channels because they want to censor what's being shown. I'm an adult and what I watch is absolutely none of ROKU's business. I'm offended by all the shows that feature only black characters, but they are still there. ROKU wants to censor all the channels with adult topics (elegant angel, etc) but not other offensive channels. Where do you get off telling me what I can or can't watch? I'm pissed.

Roku is removing all private/uncertified channels.  It has nothing to do with censorship.  It just so happens that adult channels have always had to be private channels.  I think it's a horrible decision, but it's not the first that Roku has made and it certainly won't be the last.

You are reading a message from a specific provider. I quoted the message from Roku themselves. They are not targeting any specific content, adult or otherwise. They are removing all channels not available via their channel store. Most likely, that is going to include all adult content, as I don't expect those providers to be willing/able to meet the Roku content standards. You may call that censorship, but it's no different than what Apple does with their iTunes store and Google with their Play Store. They reserve the right to ensure content meets their standards, which are clearly published. Meet the standards, and your app can be in the store. Otherwise, have a nice day.

There's no law or right that compels a platform provider, such as Roku, Apple TV or Fire TV, to allow specific content on their platforms. I'm certain that providers such as these will likely make an app available for Android based devices, which permit you to sideload apps outside the official channels. That capability does not exist for Roku or Apple devices.

Roku has opted for censorship.  Those who don't want to watch XXX are not forced to...just as I am not forced to watch marijuana or Gay channels.  Welcome to North Korea, Roku.
