Re: Roku no longer supporting VidAngel

@TrooperDada326

Sure, there's a lot of content on those, but I only use a few of those. I also use Xumo, Curiosity Stream, Pub-D-Hub, PBS. Klowd TV, IMDB TV, and others. And, for paid services, I also use (in rotation, paying for one this month, a different one next month, and so on) Apple TV+, Discovery+, and others.

The point is, more choices are better. I'm not going to tell anyone they have enough choices, and I doggone sure wouldn't tolerate being told that. More choices are a good thing. Even if the choices aren't the choices I would make.

My problem with VidAngel is their past actions and the misinformation they've used instead of cleaning up their act and their app. Once they go legit, I'm all for them having an app. But nobody needs my approval for that. I would probably not be one I used -- if I don't like the content of a movie, I simply won't watch the movie -- but it being available for others is good. If they straighten up and fly right.

Roku's choice to kill VidAngel is shortsighted and alienates a massive, and growing, population that appreciates the capacity to tailor their viewing revel in to their circle of relatives.

You've read none of this, have you? It was all explained that Roku hasn't targeted VidAngel. If someone told you that Roku targeted VidAngel, they told you wrong. Be very wary of anything they tell you, because they will tell you things that are wrong. Don't listen to people that tell you wrong things.

@DBDukes tons of people jump into a thread without actually taking the time to read the entire thread and all posts. If people did they would not be so frustrated. A simple Google search will also yield any questions. But people will always whine and complain about everything in life.

So I find this almost funny.  First were all told to go away this isn't the forum.  Then these moderators are doing their best to tell you how Vidangel are liars, illegal group and check  your facts.  They make a bunch of statements about ("Liars, Fact, lost the case (LOL can't use real word here) , yada yada dada, etc.)

They are right that this is a forum for help but woe is us for finding the only forum out there to ask for transparency as to why,  Now these moderators are doing their best to squash this and make you all go away.

1) what did they lie about  --- they always stated what they were doing and said they believed they were within the law and planned to go to court to prove it.

2) Fact they did go to court and lost part one with the Judge even stating in his brief that you are all smart people and he expected it to be appealed.

3) Fact they did lose part one of the case for decrypting the DMA garbage.  They adhered to the courts decision on that portion and changed how they do business and indeed only are a streaming service that captures the stream already purchased and then add their filters on top of that.

4) All during the court case they stated they had adhered to the courts decision and asked why they could not continue.  Disney said hey not us leave us alone you can't do our stuff.  Other people said as long as you purchase the stream from us were ok.

5) so the Disney and another mogul (can't remember if it was MGM or who) continued saying no, you can't touch us even if you have adhered to all the things we said you had to adhere to.

6) During Covid Disney decided to settle the case for $10 million and not the $60 million they were awarded and not the $110 or more million they were seeking.

So again where was all the lies, etc in this very transparent process.

Did they lose what they had hoped they stood upon legal grounds?  Yes.

Have they been granted the ability to go forward adhering to new standards?  Yes.

Has VidAngel asked multiple times to have their App approved by Roku?  Yes

Has Roku ever explained why they have denied them?  Not that I have seen.

If Roku wants to remove their unauthorized catalog that is fine

If Roku wants customers to use their platform all I ask is that they be just as transparent as to what it takes to get your app approved and if not be transparent as to why.

if they don't want a channel for Porn, legal reasons, or any other reason, simply say so.  And everyone can choose accordingly as stated plainly.

Now that being said I am not a Vidangel employee or anything like that anymore than I am a Roku employee.

It may not be an airport so I don't have to announce my departure but it is a forum and as such is subject to all kinds of questions and discussion.

If as you state this is only for problems and help and you have no help to provide then simply stay quiet.

I just love everyone who thinks they have to respond a counter point responding to a group that doesn't care.  I am not hear to argue but I will not simply go away just because someone wants to cancel the discussion because they don't like it.

@pappabees

I have not seen anyone from Roku saying anything on this thread. Did I miss that? Or are you just joining in with more misinformation?

@pappabees there has been no comment in this thread from any Roku moderator. No Roku employee has responded to anything posted here. The people you are labeling as "moderators" are not. The label "Community Streaming Expert" was given to us by Roku as we have proved our ability to provide assistance and honest information about Roku here in the community.

This is a community forum, not technical support. The Roku employed moderators do try to assist with issues within their ability, but there are limits to what they can do and say, and this is not where to come for assistance directly from Roku. The explanation why the non-certified channels were removed has been explained numerous times. It was not specifically an action against VidAngel. While it would be nice to know why Roku won't certify their channel, they have no obligation to provide that information to us here.

Has VidAngel asked multiple times to have their App approved by Roku? They say so, but we only have their statement on it. I take no position as to its accuracy.

Has Roku ever explained why they have denied them? Not here, and I would never expect them to.

If Roku wants customers to use their platform all I ask is that they be just as transparent as to what it takes to get your app approved... They provide very clear guidance on the requirements. You have to look at their developers site for that information.

I would like to know how to contact Roku to voice disapproval of this move to remove VidAngel.  I really enjoy VidAngel and wish we didn't have to buy another device to use it.  Any suggestions?  I would like to post on Facebook and let people know how to let Roku know.  Thanks.

I think Facebook is the best way to reach Roku corporate. You won't get any message to them here.
