Roku isn't dropping VidAngel. Roku is dropping non-certified apps. VidAngel is one of thousands of non-certified apps.

PornHub (which is exactly what you think it might be) is also a non-certified app, and that crowd is fussing, since non-certified apps are being dropped.

If VidAngel (or PornHub, for that matter) submits and has their app certified, it will remain.

Note that both VidAngel and PornHub are spreading half-truths about the situation. Neither service is being targeted. It's just that neither has a certified app, and all non-certified apps are being dropped.

This is the end in the line for locked down devices at my house. Next system I use will computer based. Roku, I’m throwing all your stuff in the trash today. I’d rather not watch TV then watch TV without VidAngel. Fixing unofficial app support isn’t a solution anymore. We want you to stand with us and approve the app and maybe I’ll buy another Roku device. 

tired of all the tech companies deciding what’s right and wrong on their platform. Open source it and absolve yourselves. You make all the money on ads anyways.

I had always loved Roku and have been using for almost as long as it has been available. Recently I found out that they will no longer be supporting VidAngel(an app that helps filter profanity and pornography out of tv and movies.) Now Roku has decided to stop supporting them. I am immediately disposing of all my Roku devices and never using the service again. Many of my friends are also putting a ban on Roku for their crude and unnecessary decision. I will NEVER use Roku again. They are CORRUPT and need to change.

Vidangel is not pirating content! It only allows you to stream filter videos that the producer and film company wanted to be filtered

I'm not sure where you're getting your misinformation from, but you really need to get a better source.

Roku isn't dropping VidAngel. Roku isn't dropping PornHub. (I know, you aren't ranting about PornHub, but the VidAngel and PornHub fans have this in common.)

Roku is dropping non-certified apps. The VidAngel app isn't certified. The PornHub app isn't certified. Thousands of other apps aren't certified. Roku is dropping non-certified apps, regardless of content.

If the apps are certified -- all the apps you see in the Roku Channel Store, all several thousand of those, are certified -- then the apps will remain. If not, they will be removed, regardless of content.

So, continue to act like the PornHub crowd by coming here and spouting hate (seriously, look at the title of your post). Or research what's really going on. Maybe you now have a slightly different perspective on the actual situation. And perhaps on whoever gave you bad information, spun to suit their agenda.

The core problem is that Vidangel will not, or can not (for business model reasons), certify their app with Roku.  There is a technical and commercial process that Vidangel can perform to keep their app on Roku platform.  It's not up to Roku to initiate that process (although for key players like YouTube, Netflix they encourage certification..and there was a tense negotiation a few months back to keep YouTube on Roku platform due to incompatible business models).

Vidangel users on Roku may find they have more traction campaigning to Vidangel to certify, or to get vidangel to clarify why they won't certify.  It is likely because Vidangel interferes with Roku business model (advert serving or share of subscription), or other recent changes to tech requirements requires too much redevelopment of Vidangel app.

I just bought a FireStick for this very reason. Roku either doesn't know or care about how many thousands of users bought their device just to run VidAngel for content filtering. With so much garbage on TV, this is literally the only way I will sit down and watch a movie with my kids. So, my Roku is going in the trash after Feb 23rd

Filtering is not modifying content. Whats next, we won't be allowed to fast forward scenes in a movie due to copyright infringement? What a bunch of garbage.

Please recycle it responsibly. Make sure you do a factory reset, remove it from your Roku account, then sell or give it to someone that might use it for other purposes. Far too much functional equipment goes into the "trash" today.
