I've had nothing but issues with these apps lately on my TLC Roku TV.
1. LOCATION ISSUES. Paramount+ on the Roku Channel apparently sets your location based on your IP address. Having recently switched to 5G home internet air (AT&T), this changes multiple times a day, and as a result the games available to watch through NFL on CBS can change throughout the day. Extremely frustrating that you cannot permanently set your physical location like you can in other apps so that you can stay linked to your local game! Isn't that the whole point of this app? Utterly ridiculous that other apps appear to manage this fine (e.g., YouTubeTV) but for some reason Paramount+ cannot? This needs resolution! IT IS FALSE ADVERTISING THAT YOU ARE BEING PROMISED THE ABILITY TO STREAM LOCAL GAMES!
2. P+ vs. P+ ON THE ROKU CHANNEL. When trying to deal with the issue above I called P+ and they had said my account wasn't active. As a bit of background, I had previous had a Paramount+ account but deactivated it a while ago, and this year began paying for Paramount+ ON THE ROKU CHANNEL, which, unbeknownst to me (and probably most people), is apparently an entirely different app! The folks at Paramount+ (after waiting for quite some time) were unable to help me with this location issue since I didn't have an active account! How does this make sense AT ALL? You have a Paramount+ on the Roku Channel App, but they cannot help you diagnose issues with the app? Is this something ROKU needs to deal with?
To make matters worse, I had recently tried to sign in to my Paramount+ on the Roku channel app this afternoon (Christmas Day) to watch NFL ON CBS, and it now says I need to sign in or subscribe to PHILO! To try and streamline things, I went ahead and restarted my P+ subscription (NOT for Roku Channel) and turned off my auto-renew on P+ on the ROKU CHANNEL, since I thought the previous app worked better and I don't have a PHILO account. However, I learned that I CANNOT REMOVE THE PARAMOUNT+ ON THE ROKU CHANNEL APP UNTIL MY SUBSCRIPTION APPARENTLY ENDS!
So, now I'm stuck paying for both apps (for the time being), and amazingly, neither of them is working today (Christmas). This has been nothing short of an absolute disaster and an utter disappointment on a holiday where I would have really appreciated being able to watch football on my large television. After all, that was the whole reason for me getting this app. When I log into Paramount+ on my mobile device, there is apparently no issue, so I can at least watch on my phone. But again, there is no reason to have the app without the ability to watch on the television (65" TLC Roku TV).
I have wasted entirely too much time figuring all of this out and sincerely hope that Roku and Paramount+ (and possibly 5G home internet companies) can help customers like myself.
