Hi,
I have been using the Roku 3800X Streaming Stick and Plex Player for the last 3 years. Until a few days ago, files encoded in both H.264 and H.265 always worked. Now, all files encoded in H.265 will not load (gets stuck at 33% until a playback error is presented). Even with movies that I watched last week. I thought purchasing the Roku Express HD might fix this issue but it did not.
The Plex Player and H.265 encoded files work on all my other devices including a TCL 4k Roku TV, phone, tablet and PC. These are the only devices that I have H.265 encoded streaming issues with and it's isolated to the 3800x Streaming stick and Roku Express HD.
Updated: I am using a Synology NAS with DSM 7.2.1-69057 and a Plex Media Server (1.40.5.8897).
Synology update Version: 7.2.2-72803 has the following release note: "Starting from this version, the processing of media files using HEVC (H.265), AVC (H.264), and VC-1 codecs will be transitioned from the server to end devices to reduce unnecessary resource usage on the system and enhance system efficiency. These codecs are widespread on end devices such as smartphones, tablets, computers, and smart TVs. If the end device does not support the required codecs, the use of media files may be limited."
For those that update to version 7.2.2, Plex offers an update to fix the issue. I am still on update 7.2.1 and was looking to upgrade my Roku so purchasing a Roku 4K also fixed the issue.
What do you use as your server? There is a thread on another forum that Synology had a recent update that affected how H265 stuff is processed.

I use the Synology DiskStation DS920. I will check out the other thread. Thank you.
