TV Power and volume Control

Hi everyone,

I ‘just bought the Roku Ultra for my 2year-old LG tv. Things are working well except I cannot manually control volume level. I can by voice but I don’t wish to do that.

Right now I have to use my LG remote to turn the TV on and off and to control the volume.  I’ve tried everything but I’m wondering if I’m doomed to use 2 remotes. Thank you for any suggestions on what to try.

Greetings, and welcome to the Roku Community.

I appreciate you for sharing with us the troubles you have encountered with your Roku remote's Power and Volume control. I'm here to help.

Let's set up your Roku remote to control the Power and Volume.

If your Roku device is connected to an AVR or soundbar, we recommend temporarily connecting it directly to your TV during setup to successfully detect the brand of your TV.

    1. Press Home

       on your Roku voice remote
    2. Scroll and select Settings
    3. Select Remotes & devices
    4. Select Remote
    5. Choose your voice remote from the list and select Set up remote for TV control
    6. Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the process

I bought two of the new voice Roku remotes, the ones that light up the whole keypad when you bump or move the remote, and I could not get it to control my LG TV.  The LG TV we have is the one with the "air mouse" LG remote that you just move around and a cursor moves all over the screen.  Anyhow the previous Roku voice remote works just fine, but doesn't have the light up keypad like the new ones and my wife likes to see the remotes keypad.  I didn't any problem whatsoever getting the other new voice remote to work with our Samsung TV, so I'm curious what the deal is.  BTW, I tried selecting other TV types but none of those remote codes worked either.  BTW, I have owned and setup and used at least 20 Roku's and Roku TV's since Roku came out, I have gone through the procedure many times and I am very familiar with the process, so can I get a tier 2 or tier 3 support person to help with this?  I've tried and exhausted the usual process as described above and it doesn't work. The only thing I haven't tried is swapping the two new remotes, to see if the problem follows the remote or the LG TV.  BTW, the older voice remote still works just fine with the LG TV and I know the CEC doesn't work, so we can check those boxes off the troubleshooting list.  Thanks...

Thank you. I tried re-pairing my remote to the LG and voila! Everything now works.
