TCL Roku TV loses wifi connection and then can't find any wifi networks

Hello everyone,,
The happens at least once a day (or more). Watching Netflix (and other channels), then get a network connection error and prompts me to set up new connection. I go to the network setup and scan for wifi networks and none can be found. My laptop in the same room is connected to same wifi with no issues.
I have then go to Settings -> System -> Advanced system settings -> Network connection reset -> Reset Connection.
This will reboot the roku TV and once it comes back up I am able to setup the wifi connection   like normal and everything works until this same cycle happens after a few hours of  using it.
My roku is updated to the latest software.

  • thanks, just happened to me first time after months of using t.v. appreciate it...thought tv might be going bad already lol, thanks again
  • I am experiencing this also with TCL 55S405 55-Inch 4K Ultra HD Roku Smart LED TV (2017 Model).

I tried doing a full factory reset, no dice, the TV's MAC address is showing as all zeroes which means the TV can't communicate with the WiFi card.  To me this suggests a hardware failure of the card.

I've put in a support request to TCL but I suspect I'll have to hardwire the TV to the network.  Since this is a 2017 model and a lot of people started reporting this in 2018, I suspect that there was a run of weak WiFi cards around that time and they just die frequently.

So my Roku started having problems after the June 27th 2020 software update prior to this was just minor issues with a dropping off maybe once a month or so now every morning I wake up I can't get it to connect with a Wi-Fi that it was connecting with for over a year now. has anybody done a hard wire connection with a Nick cable to see if that rectify the problem? Let me know...

I had my wife test that and she said everything worked.  Even if the wifi becomes more reliable with the next update I prefer a wired connection so I ordered a switch for $17 to split up the signal.  Cables are less apt to drop signal or get interference.

  • I reached the same point you desribed and then it stopped working every time the system did an auto update. Eventully that sopped working and I could still do a recover, like you did.  I Then installed the latest SW from the USB laptop proceedure and could do the manual update but had to run setup and select store (home put me back into the loop). That worked 'til about 6 or so weeks ago and then the store selection stopped. The only thing I could do was do a manual software up date. I reinstalled the USB drive and it was rejected. The TCL message said invalid update. The version was 9.3.0. So, I am dead -- dor wi-fi capability.

    Are you still working?

  • the advanced settings reset is key..I was down over 5 months..trying to reconnect.

Entering and entering my router pass code.

..errrrrr. Thank you for the advanced settings reset.

  • All I had to do to fix the WIFI connection problem was  go to setting>system>advance system settings>network connection reset. This will restart your Roku TV. Once on, go back to setting>network setup connection>wireless, then put in your wifi password if any and connect. You should be good to go.

I had the same problem with an Insignia Roku TV.  I got so frustrated that I went and bought a TCL Roku TV.  Less than a week I had the same problem.  No wireless networks found on scan and MAC Address was all Zeros.  These TVs were in our camper that I would use my hotspot on my phone when we went camping and my home wifi when at home.  After replacing the Insignia with the TCL in the camper I moved the Insignia to my basement workshop where it found my wifi and has worked ever since.  Yesterday took the TCL out of the camper and brought it in to the basement workshop and tried everything to get it to connect to the home wifi.  I tried reset, unplugging and replugging factory reset.  Nothing worked.  I removed a usb stick that I had installed in it for live pause on local channels and lo and behold it found the wifi signal after a button reset.  Let me know if anyone else tries this and has any luck.

  • Can I set up my wifi throw the app on my phone

Roron it is impossible to connect your TV to a wireless network without a remote. The app will not connect to your TV unless the TV and the phone are connected to the same private network. You can use a universal IR remote, so you don't have to have a Roku specific remote. Just make sure the remote you buy says it supports TCL TVs.

  • If you're experiencing issues with your TCL Roku TV losing its Wi-Fi connection, there are a few things you can try to troubleshoot the problem. First, make sure your TV is within range of your wireless router and that there are no obstructions blocking the signal. You may also want to try restarting your router and TV to see if that helps restore the connection. If the problem persists, you can try resetting your TV's network settings or updating its firmware. You can also check for any software updates for your router. If none of these steps resolve the issue, it may be helpful to contact TCL customer support for further assistance.

matutedamaris38 you didn't actually say anything, so we don't know what issue you're having.

If the subject line is accurate, then you might be experiencing something that has occurred with numerous TCL TVs. The antenna connection on the WiFi board comes loose and needs to be resoldered to the board. Not something that can be done by the average owner. Contact TCL and see if you can get some support from them. Roku did not build your TV, so they can't assist with hardware issues.
