Streaming stick 4k volume issues.

Hello. I have my Roku streaming stick 4k connected to my 1 year old Samsung tv and soundbar.

I am watching something on let’s say you tubeTV and after a little while the roku remote  volume freezes and I am unable to mute or control the volume. I can do all other functions with the remote. After a few minutes the volume and mute work again. It’s almost like something is heating up and needs to cool down.
Now, when the volume does work with the roku stick it’s controlling the Samsung sound bar I have connected.
could that be the issue?
thanks.

Thanks for posting here in the Roku Community.

We appreciate you for discussing the issue you've experienced in this thread. Have you tried performing a system restart on your Roku streaming device to see if you notice any difference? To do this, restart your device from Settings > System > Power > System Restart (If you do not see a Power submenu, skip to the next step).

After this, you can also attempt to troubleshoot by unplugging your Roku device from the power source for 1 minute and then plugging it back again.

Please let us know what you find out so further actions can be taken to address this issue.

    All the best,
    Kash

  • Hi, olemiss74

Thanks for posting in the Roku Community.

We appreciate you for bringing this to our attention, and we apologize for the experience you had. Kindly follow the troubleshooting steps below to resolve the issue.

If the power and volume buttons on your remote have stopped working entirely, try to update your Roku device to the most recent software. To manually update your software:

    1. Navigate to Settings
    2. Select System
    3. Select System update
    4. Select Check now

Confirm the dialogue box to proceed with download and and installation. Note that your Roku player will automatically download the latest software the next time when it checks for update. After the Roku player finishes restarting, if TV control has not been restored, setup your remote for TV control again by doing the following:

    1. Navigate to Settings
    2. Select Remotes & devices
    3. Select Remotes followed by your remote
    4. Select Set up remote for TV control

One additional troubleshooting step we recommend are the step below.

    Unpair your Roku remote

    1. Press and hold the pairing button for 20 seconds.

Re-pair your voice remote to your streaming device

Put your streaming device in pairing mode:

    1. Remove the power cable from your streaming device
    2. Wait at least 5 seconds
    3. Re-connect the power cable
    4. Wait for your streaming device to power on, and the Home screen to appear on your TV screen
    5. Within 30 seconds of seeing the Home screen on your TV screen, put your voice remote into pairing mode

Put your voice remote in pairing mode:

    1. Press and hold the pairing button on your voice remote for 20 seconds. The status light should slowly flash green, stop, and then flash rapidly. When this happens, release the pairing button and your remote will restart.
    2. Press and hold the pairing button for 5 seconds, or until you see the status light begin to flash. If the light does not flash, charge your remote.
    3. Wait for 30 seconds while the remote establishes a connection with your streaming device.

Once your streaming device and remote are connected, the pairing dialog will appear on your TV screen.

Please keep us posted on how these works.

    All the best,
    Kash

  • Hi Phillygal welcome to the Roku Community!

Thanks for reaching out to us. We are thrilled to assist you in setting up your remote for controlling your TV volume. Simply follow the troubleshooting steps below to access the power and volume buttons on your Roku remote.:

Once your Roku device is activated and set up, you can access the settings menu to configure your voice remote to control your TV. If your Roku device is connected to an AVR or soundbar, we suggest temporarily connecting it directly to your TV during setup to ensure successful detection of your TV's brand.

How to set up your voice remote after initial setup and activation:

    1. Press Home on your Roku voice remote
    2. Scroll and select Settings
    3. Select Remotes & devices
    4. Select Remote
    5. Choose your voice remote from the list and select Set up remote for TV control
    6. Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the process

    NOTE

    1. When you hear music playing, select Yes to confirm. If you do not hear music playing, try increasing the volume using your TV remote.
    2. Next, your Roku device attempts to mute the volume using remote codes for the detected TV brand. If the music stops, select Yes.
    3. If the music continues to play, select No. Your Roku device was unable to detect the correct information about your TV, however, you can manually enter the brand by selecting Enter TV brand.
    4. As you enter the brand using the on-screen keyboard, a list to the right populates. After you select the brand, the music begins playing again. Select Yes when you hear it. As before, your Roku device again attempts to mute volume, this time using the first of multiple remote codes for the TV brand you entered. After each code is attempted, you are asked if the music stops playing. When it does, select Yes
    5. Your Roku voice remote is now programmed to control both power and volume on your TV. Select OK to continue.

Please let us know if the issue is fixed or reply back to the thread for further assistance, we will be glad to help you.

    Thanks,
    Jharra

I have the exact same problem with two of my 4K streaming stick remotes as dollpie1 described.  The volume & mute buttons freeze frequently for anywhere from 30 seconds to a few minutes before they begin working again.  The other buttons work fine during these episodes.  The remotes have already been set up using the Remotes & Devices menu,  so no need to suggest going through that process again.  It's not a set up problem, rather, one of dysfunctionality.

Please advise as I will be forced to search for an alternative universal remote that has reliable sound control.
