Roku Streaming Stick turns ON after being turned OFF

I have a 4K Roku stick connected via a Marantz AV Receiver to Klipsche speakers and my OLED Sony TV.  My problem is this:  after shutting down the system with the pre-programed Roku remote, about one-third of the time, the receiver switches back on within 7 min. of it being shut down!
It never has caused the TV to switch on with it, only the receiver.  I replaced the Marantz AVR recently with a Sony AVR and it still happens.  Then the receiver will switch off about 50% of the time (remains on the other 50% until it is manually turned off).   The common denominator to this is the Roku and the Roku remote.  Perhaps it is related to the remote being programed to control the receiver via the Roku.  Even though the remote also is programed to turn the TV on and off, the TV is never switched back on with this issue, as previously noted. It happens even when I have removed the remote from the room after the turn off.

This is just nuts and unexplainable.  Has anyone else out there experienced this and/or solved the problem?  It is annoying enough for me to consider replacing the Roku with either a Firestick or Chromecast.

  • Do you use HDMI-CEC?  If not, an easy answer might be turning that off in the AVR and/or the Roku.  (In the Roku this is at Settings -> System -> Control other devices -> 1-touch-play.)

Hmm, then again, maybe you do use HDMI-CEC because you say "after shutting down the system with the pre-programmed Roku remote".  I believe Roku still claims that the power button on any Roku remote only sends a power code to a TV, so it would seem to be your TV that tells the AVR to shutdown (50% of the time?) but then it still might be the Roku that is waking it back up. So if you want to go this route, you might experiment with shutting it off in the TV too. (Samsung calls it AnyNet+ - everyone has their own name for HDMI-CEC.)

Could not find an obvious explanation on my devices for a solution so I was hesitant to make changes, but thank you!
