Do you have access to the router? And have you installed an app like WiFi Analyzer for Android or something similar for iPhone? I ask is its possible the router channel selection is set to 'auto' and its picking channels that are highly congested. So if you install the app you'll be able to see how many others are using the same one as you are the disable the auto selection and set the channel to one with less congestion.
