I concur. It is a giant pain in the buttocks. They need to change it and change it soon. I haven't even had my Roku TV for three months and I'm already planning on purchasing a new one without Roku.

I am going to pile on here....Roku needs to reconsider the decision and make a remote with numbers on it available. with all of the apps driving interest in Roku, it would be really welcome and a huge value add for those of us that have more than one unit on our account.

**bleep**! I just bought 2 roku tvs so that I wouldn't have to use the sticks anymore. I had no idea about these stupid remotes without numbers. Are the makers of these tv remotes insane??? These remotes are geared to roku usage while the live tv seems to be an afterthought.
Is there any remote, such as a universal, that I could buy that would work with the live tv part?- Lan25 years agoReel Rookie
You can use any universal remote you want to control the TV, but it won't change the OTA channel. It is so stupid that I can enter the channel numbers and see them appear on screen but when I press OK or Enter nothing happens.
Sorry.
I have a nice big universal remote so I can control DVD, sound bar and TV and it has the volume controls on the front where they belong, next to the navigation buttons. I was always unintentionally changing the volume on the TCL/Roku remote.
I love my TVs except for this one very annoying fault. I just cannot believe that Roku has decided that consumers are not worth listening to -- and I have no interest in talking to a remote, much less having an open mic in my living room!

this is goddamned ridiculous that this TV has no way to turn to a channel directly.

Just recently they've added the ability to switch directly among OTA channels using amazon alexa. You can also manually key in the streaming channels in the channel guide if you have a smart remote like the logitech harmony, I believe some other universal remotes also work.
Not perfect but it's progress

I just replaced my primary TV (a Samsung that had terrible HDR performance). I would have happily gotten a new Roku TV, except this TV absolutely has to have direct access to OTA channels. I refused to buy something that I had to scroll through the channel list. So I got an LG Nano85 and couldn't be happier. I still have a Roku Ultra and Nvidia Shield attached to it, as I don't really care for most Smart TV apps. But the wife has grown to enjoy Pluto TV, and it's on the TV as well as the external players. So everyone's happy.

I downloaded the Roku remote app on my phone, it has a number option. I rather have a remote for my mother to use....but at least it is something.

Thank you!
I have been studiously avoiding "smart" televisions due to stupid UI they all seem to have.
Could you please reply if you can use the numeric keypad for channel guide in Sling? Does it only work with OTA?
I don't know if they allow private messages (assuming Roku doesn't want a discussion of what to buy when their product simply doesn't work) if private allowed please feel free to send me a message with your personal nano85 experience with the user interface. Especially how it would work for someone older that has only had channel numbers all their life.
Thanks again for pointing me in the right direction!

I hate that fact too, however, Roku has made available moving channel tiles. So if your parents land most of the time in an area where the local channels are placed, which is generally the lower number channels, you can then move the other channels that you want to watch to the same area. This may not be the perfect solution, but it helps. Other than that I believe their remote has everything I need. The Roku app in your cell is also great, but I don't like exhausting my cell battery life for that. Like yall I still prefer some numbers on my remote.
