Roku remote will not connect to TV for power or volume

It's only 1 tv and it's a 5 year old tv. It's a Vizio Quantum 65 4K Smart TV. When I go thru the remote set up it goes thru all 8 test channels with "is the sound on?" and then says remote can't be s...
