Roku remote automatically add an app

Last week it was Apple TV, this week it’s Disney +. I don’t have either one, but since we got 2 new rechargeable Roku remotes they both randomly go to the page where it says to click here to add the app and then it’s freezes. None of the buttons will work except the voice. I say home or settings and it says “thinking” then it won’t leave that page. Turned the stub off and back on and it’s still stuck on that page. I did find a fix where you have to push a bunch of different buttons which does cause Roku to reset and then it’s fine. But why is it even happening when no one pushed the button to add the app to begin with? Again it only started happening when we got the new rechargeable remotes.

    Sounds like those new rechargeable remotes are ghost-tapping and making the Roku think you’re trying to add a channel. I’ve seen that—it’s usually a pairing glitch, not Disney+ or Apple TV. First, unpair and re-pair the remotes: go to Settings → Remotes & devices → Remotes → Set up a new remote and run through it. Then power-cycle the Roku by unplugging it for about 30 seconds and plugging it back in. After it boots, check for updates in Settings → System → System update, and also look at the remote firmware under Remotes & devices. Finally, test with just one remote—put the other in another room or pull its battery for a bit—and see if the issue stops. If this only started with the new remotes, one of them is probably buggy or mispaired.

    You mentioned your Roku remote automatically add an app. Can you try these steps:

    If your remote uses regular batteries:

    1. Take out both batteries.
    2. Press any two buttons on the remote to discharge any remaining power.
    3. Put the batteries back in—make sure the negative end goes in first.
    4. Snap the battery cover back on.

    If your remote is rechargeable:

    • If it has a Pairing button, press and hold it for 20 seconds.
    • If there’s no Pairing button, press and hold the Back and Home buttons together for 20 seconds.
    • Wait until the light on the remote stops blinking.
