Roku 2 stuck in dancing logo

Roku 2 stuck on dancing ROKU  logo with flashing white light. Can't access anything forward of this. Removed power several times and for overnight, reset router checked hdmi cable, etc. Nothing works. Can this be a complete failure of unit due to age, or can a recent update have corrupted the system?

  • That dancing Roku logo usually means the system isn’t finishing its boot—could be a hardware issue from age, but sometimes a bad update can also cause this. If resets didn’t help, it might sadly be time to consider a replacement, but you could try a factory reset as a last resort if you haven’t already. Good luck getting it back! rleescott

  • rleescott Depending on the model of Roku 2 that you have, that device is more than 10 years old and no longer gets supported or any updates.   I don't think there has been any updates for that device in a long time.   Most apps also probably will no longer work.  I would say that the device has basically worn out and is considered obsolete.  I would suggest replacing with a new device with the latest operating system with is OS 15.

Appreciate your reply. If what you say is true, that wouldn't explain perfect working order and all apps functioning properly, including updates, until a few days ago. So the device is not obsolete.

I did a full factory reset as suggested by other members, holding down the reset for an extended period of time, until screen reset and asked for sign in. System now works properly, and it went thru the update process properly.

Glad to know that worked for you.  What OS is your device working on?  Depending on what is the latest OS you have and the age of the device, your issues may return or get worse.

    Hey rleescott

Your Roku 2 seems to be caught in a boot loop, displaying the dancing logo repeatedly. To assist with troubleshooting, please provide the following info.

    • Roku device info: Software version, Device ID, and Serial Number (found in Settings > System > About).
    • Tracker ID Software version and build (press Home 5 times, then Back 5 times when the issue occurs)
    • A video or photo would be helpful

Let us know when you can!

Since you acknowledge the boot loop that CANNOT progress further, please explain, how you expect me to advance to settings while in a frozen loop. If I could advance, I wouldn't have a problem. Canned replies that do not show an awareness of the facts of the question are not helpful and delay resolution!
