I recently lost the remote control for my [insert device here], and while I was planning to get a replacement, I’m now considering just buying a whole new unit. The cost of a replacement remote seems quite high for just a standard remote, and waiting for it to arrive in the mail feels like a hassle.

You should be grateful of the cost of replacement remotes nowadays, in 80's and throughout the 90's the standard price of replacement oem remote was over $200!!! That was for tv's, Vcr's and AVR remote replacements.
