I am waiting for the developer of the Photoview app to update the app. The recent Roku updates broke it. It's a much better way to view photos. https://www.photoviewapp.com/faq/#upgrade
Thanks. That Roku doesn't seem able to address the simple task of removing the QR code in the year+ since requested, combined with the many other limitations I've found since starting to use the app, finding an alternate Roku app or streaming platform other than Roku seems a path more likely to lead to something usable.
I have a Google TV box. I prefer it to Roku but mostly because I can replace the stock launcher and run other Android apps. It also has a much better photo streaming screen saver. However, I might not recommend it if you're not interested in tinkering. The stock user experience is more advertising heavy and less intuitive. Roku still has the most simple and easy user experience. The only one I have seen that comes close is Apple TV.
