parental controls on Apps

I want to be able to put a password or something that will prevent my children to be able to download apps.  Youtube for sure. I thought I had done that but he was able to download it anyway.  I don't want apps that I don't approve of on my home screen

  • Hi Jaspendlove,

Thanks for your first post in the Roku Community!

We can certainly understand your concern that you want to manage parental controls on the Roku device.

We currently do not have the feature for global parental control settings on Roku devices directly. But we do have parental control for The Roku channel and the Roku PIN feature.

  • Yeah, I'm right there with you. I like the Roku TV, but I really want more parental controls. I'd like to be able to set certain hours the TV can be used, auto-off at a certain time, volume limit, and restrict which "channels" (or what normal people call software on devices from third parties: apps) can be installed.  I don't want my kids to have access to just any app. The canned response with the over the top chipper customer service buzzwords just says "we don't give a **bleep** about what you want" with a nice big smile.  This is pretty low hanging fruit.  I would have planned to start replacing all the TVs in my house, (about 7 tvs right now...), with Roku TVs if this basic feature was available. It's 2023.  We should have too many features as a problem, not a lack of features.

Doesn't seem roku really cares about consumer opinion. As an A/V technician that is in numerous homes a year with roku interest, I will be sure to make this aware to all my clients. Parental Control over what can be downloaded should be a basic option. I do no support this and I will openly express my opinion and the dangers every chance I get to turn folks away from roku.

  • I agree this is terrible I pay money every month but I guess they have the say on are kids watching things they shouldn’t be able to watch! I’m looking for something different And I’m gonna make sure I spread the word for everyone not to do Roku!!! It seems like there’s consequences for no money but no Consequences for these kids watching God knows what on tv!! WELCOME TO **bleep** WHOLE AMERICA!!!

  • I am having the exact same issue.  Did you ever find a solution for You Tube being blocked?

    Thanks!

Exactly I remove the YouTube app and my kid just reinstalls it. I even check off to require a pin to install an app but that doesn’t seem to take

Why is there no parental control to downloading an apps? I have removed YouTube from my TV. I don't want the kids to downloading it again. Why can't I put a pin on downloading apps?  It seems like a simple fix.

Totally agree, bad show on Roku.  As a result my once loves Roku devise now site powered off and on a shelf somewhere never to be used again.

even just basis pin level access for installed apps would be a good basis to start. Bye Roku.

      • Shocked it’s not an option. Base level point required to download an app solves this instantly.
