Old Nintendo won't work on my TV

I am trying to get an older Nintendo working with a Roku using the three AV cables. I renamed AV to Nintendo allowing it to show up on my screen. I also hear a light buzz from the tv giving me hope that it is working. The only thing I get is the screen telling me Looking for a signal, Check that your device is on and plugged into AV. Everything is on and plugged into the appropriate ports. The Nintendo has power but not being acknowledged from the TV. I want to get this working to introduce to my two grand boys like I did with their father. Thank you in advance for your help. Dan

Is there some adapter involved that has the Red/White/Yellow connectors at one end and mini-plug on the other?  If so, you may have the wrong one.  Try each of the three colored connectors in the Yellow Nintendo output and see if you get a picture.

Hi Renojim - the Nintendo has a build in wire with red, yellow and white, I plugged those three wires into the back of the Roku TV and matched up the colors. I will look for an adapter that has an HDMI connection and red, yellow, plug on the other end, I believe I did that converting a VCR to the same TV. If this wasn't what you had in mind, please try to help me understand. Thanks for your help.
