New Feature:Change Closed Caption Position

I would like to be able to shift the audio subtitles up or down in line height increments.

People could use this feature for various reasons:

  • Move them into the black bars when a film is 2.45 aspect ratio
  • Move them out of the black bars when they are using a projector and zoom the image to fill the screen
  • Move them out of the more active regions of the image

This feature is available in several high quality players like Oppo and Panasonic and would position Roku as the favored choice by consumers looking for this feature.

Great idea there! Adjusting the position of closed captioning on your Roku devices or TVs can be super helpful in enhancing your streaming experience.

We keep our captions on most of the time and being able to customize placement would be terrific. The default placement frequently conflicts with (overlaps) the burned in subtitles from foreign language content or similar, and is often different. (eg., CC may display "Speaks in native language" while the burned-in subtitle will display the translation because the purpose of CC vs subtitles is different.)

I am soooo glad meierwj started this thread!  I have had captions set for "on always" ever since I got my first Roku and on other things as well for years before that. I did not need them until well into adulthood but have needed them for many years. I did not think of asking for this but now that someone has it makes me wonder why it did not come along well before now.

Being able to change the size and position is the closed caption would be a great thing. I'm severely hearing impaired from age of 3 years. I read lips and use captions to watch tv. The captions on Roku TV, most channels, falls in the middle of the picture, covering most of useful images, the reason we watch tv programs or movies. Using closed captions is an art, most of the hearing world considers it a pain to watch television with me, a distraction from their enjoyment of a movie or program. Without captions, I am wasting my time sitting in front of a tv. I'm begging you, please, it can't be a big deal to make this minor adjustment to Roku so that I can understand, read lips of a interview, news reporter, speaking actor, make the captions movable.

      Thanks
