    Ahhh OK. That makes sense.

    Somehow though this just continues to disappoint: Clearly Dolby Vision is working on the Roku. In fact my TV often detects it and displays the TV's "Dolby Vision" in the upper right as soon as I go to the main menu of the Roku.

    However it doesn't appears to be working in the Roku's Fandango at Home app. What sucks with that, is that they don't appear to have any free content that's in Dolby Vision for me to test with. That means that the only time I can test it is when I actually pay for a rental.

    The other night we rented "A Complete Unknown" which is supposed to be in Dolby Vision. When we watched it, Fandango at Home said it was "UHD" but the TV clearly did NOT detect it as such and didn't display it's "Dolby Vision" in the upper right at all. VERY disappointing.

    In fact, the TV didn't even display any HDR in the upper right. Maybe I'm mistaken but I was SURE that my TV would display one of those two if it was even in UHD. I'm not convinced it even was.

    Fandango at Home is really the only reason I bought the Roku. If anyone has any insight on Fandango at Home and Dolby Vision I'd love to hear it.

The fact that your LG displays the "Dolby Vision" badge @ Roku Home indicates you have Dolby Vision Always on enabled in your Roku (again, I recommend turning it off, otherwise SDR/HLG/HDR10 content is output as DV with an inaccurate colorspace).

The Fandango @ Home app for RokuOS does support DV, but the content has to be DV tagged/encoded - which A Complete Unknown is.

The reason you aren't getting the LG's DV badge when playing DV-encoded content from your Roku is because your TV is already in DV mode (because you have Dolby Vision Always on enabled in your Roku).

You need to disable Dolby Vision Always on in your Roku:  Settings/System/Advanced system settings/Advanced display settings/Dolby Vision Always on = Off

Once you do that, SDR will display as SDR, HDR10 as HDR10, HLG as HLG, Dolby Vision as Dolby Vision, all in the correct colorspace for each, with appropriate badge for each displaying when your LG receives the relative content encoding ("HDR" for HDR10, "HLG HDR" for HLG, and "Dolby Vision" for DV).

FYI, the WebOS (LG) Fandango @ Home app also supports Dolby Vision (and Atmos), so you can also use that...

    OMG. Sorry for being dense here! I was sure I had that off and it was in fact on.

    And YES, once I shut that off and tried watching that movie again it was in Dolby Vision and the TV indicated as much.

      Unfortunately this one has turned out a bit disappointing, as the Vudu / Fandango at Home app seems to have some serious issues with Dolby Vision with some (maybe most) movies.

      Once I got this working, the Dolby Vision on the movie "A Complete Unknown" worked perfectly. Since them however we've rented two movies in Dolby Vision that had serious issues. What happens is that they start playing and the TV indicates that it detects Dolby Vision, and there's audio, but we get only a black screen. In fact, even the on screen display (with the progress bar etc) isn't even visible. We had to watch both of those in 1080p. We actually had a third movie that had issues, but somehow after trying a few times it played correctly.

      It actually gets much worse though. While watching the movies that we couldn't get to work, attempting to switch the movie from HDX to UHD while it was playing went to a black screen and totally crashes the Roku, where I had to unplug it's USB power to reboot it.

      What especially sucks about all this is that it's all but impossible to test, because they have no free stuff in Dolby Vision, so it can't be tested for free.

      Not too happy with all that.

        I have a DV capable LG set, just not an OLED. The best source I've used for DV content is Disney+, although the digital content that I've purchased looks good when using Movies Anywhere as well.
