Is it possible to get caller ID on Roku TV?

Is it possible to get caller ID on a Roku TV. Just switched from Directv and plugged the phone line adapter that was on the Directv box into the Roku tv and nothing. Just wondering if there is a way?

  • Unfortunately, Roku TVs don’t support caller ID through a phone line adapter like Directv boxes do. One thing you can do is use your phone's caller ID features or a call-blocking app to manage calls. It’s not exactly the same, but it helps you see who’s calling.

I want an app that will show caller id for who is calling my cell on the Roku tv.

  • I see it's been a while since you've posted, but I just wanted to ask if anyone has tried setting up caller ID through a smart home integration like Alexa or Google Home linked to a phone service. I’ve been messing around with SmartThings and wondered if there’s a workaround that pushes caller info to Roku through another device or app. Curious if anyone found a creative solution since this was last discussed.

    JeannaLS-

I know of no Roku TVs that have telephone jacks.  Might you have plugged your phone line into an Ethernet port?  They look similar, but the Ethernet port is wider than a phone port.

At any rate, I've never heard of Roku TVs having any provisions for doing anything with telephone Caller IDs.

Displaying CallerID requires one of two things:

    1. the TV itself has the necessary hardware to connect to the phone line, gather the caller information, and then display it on-screen as an overlay of the current content
    2. Something is connected to the TV via an HDMI cable, and that something (some sort of external box) has the necessary phone connectivity and can overlay the information over whatever content it is providing to the TV.

There will be no way to display it on the TV over content that the TV itself is providing (either an OTA station or some streaming app) if it doesn't have what I listed in #1. And #2 will not be able to send the information to the TV and have it displayed if the TV is the one providing the on-screen content. While some TVs do have a picture-in-picture function, and that might be able to display the callerID info in the pop-up window, the user would need to manually open the PIP window, and if it's left open at all times it would block a significant amount of the screen image.
