you need strong fingers and hands.
Find the three lines on the back. The piece of plastic that they are on
must be free and not touched or held. hold the top put your thumb on the lines
and firmly press toward the bottom of the remote.
I think the first time is the hardest.
I am having the same issue. This is crazy!

I did it! Here’s a tip. Take a piece of strong tape (I used painter’s tape). Double it so both sides are sticky. Put the tape on the three lines mentioned above. Then, Press down kn the tape/three lines (shown in other posts). Continue to push as you pull it down.
Once I had it partway down, I gently used a knife to completely remove it.
I hope this helps someone!

Thank you, NancyDWrites!
A bit of duct tape worked for me, on the third try. I didn't need to use a knife either.

I'm having the same problem. Ready to quit on Roku.

cdorchard, boogernose was booted out of here long ago for stupid responses like that.
There's a few different designs of Roku remotes (and as was stated, if it's rechargeable it's not meant to be opened), so it's not really possible to give you good advice without knowing what you have. For the ones that just slide open try attaching a big piece of duct tape to the part that comes off (always the back bottom section and by bottom I'm speaking of the end farthest from the Home button) to give you something to hold onto and pull straight down. Once you open and close it a few times it will become more and more easy to open.

Insane.

Really. That's your response. Use your teeth. Are you a dentist?
