It’s been many years, but every VCR I’ve seen had composite outputs, and even back in the 1980 that was the method recommended for best quality. (Both are pathetic in modern terms, but composite should be a little better.) And since VCRs also have TV tuners, you should be able to connect the video game to the ant/cable in on the VCR, and tune the VCR to channel 3 or 4.

Be aware that TV's no longer are required to support analog TV signals through the antenna connection. It's possible the TV may not support it. There are many converters out there that can convert RF (antenna channels 3/4), composite, S-Video, or Component Video to HDMI.
