Gen 1 voice remote mic issue?

Many posts on hear about remote voice search issues.

I have A Gen 1 voice remote (AAA batteries and no headphone jack).

Used voice search button years no issue. Suddenly it gives a pop-up on screen saying "Unable to hear you. Try again"

These are external HDMI Roku sticks.

I've done all the suggested fixes from the community... rebooted the sticks, removed remote batteries, re-paired remote, etc.

I even paired the problem remote to my other roku stick on a downstairs TV and it still didnt work (the other remote worked on that stick/TV).

So it is not the stick or TV or software (one is a 3810 and the other a 3820) and they are on different TVs yet the problem persisted with that remote when pairing to other unit.

The Mic looks clean.  I tried different voices, different speaking volumes, different search command phrases.

So it is the remote mic?  Just stopped working?
