      Hey G-babiii

      Welcome to the Roku Community!

We appreciate for reporting your connectivity issue. We are here to help.

      1. Have there been any recent changes to your network or provider?
      2. What error message or code do you see when trying to connect?
      3. How far is your device from your network router?

In the meantime, you can connect to a mobile hotspot and see if it works. Please keep us posted.

RokuRhea-V âžś I have an older Roku device, it's a Sharp Roku TV that was basically brand new when I purchased it privately off of Facebook Marketplace back in 2021 (exact purchase date unknown).

So to explain, my wifi went down on Wednesday for about 15/20 minutes, and while my laptop, iPad and mobile phone had reconnected right away, my TV still has not...I have tried to connect it to the internet and update the software in my home but I keep getting "SOFTWARE UPDATE FAILED - The software update server could not be reached. There may be a problem with your network..Error code 003. There is nothing wrong with my network. I have tried resetting EVERYTHING, even did a complete reset by holding down the little reset button.

Fast forward to today still when I run setup on the TV, the wireless network, local network, and internet connection, it connects fine and then immediately goes to check for a software update and no luck, still get the same error code: 003. I tried to do the manual update for the TV via USB, but it just says that the software is older than the already installed software?? so now that I can't even do that I am beyond frustrated. I cannot afford to get a new TV.. This is the FIRST time in the 5-ish years that my TV has done this...

Is there any way a Roku employee can fix the issue from their end and push through the software update on my TV other than tossing my TV into the trash?

I have listed below all the info in the "about" section of my Sharp | Roku TV below:

        • Model: LC-43LBU711C
        • Hardware ID: 7223X
        • Serial #: YN00LJ375268
        • Device ID: JVD05L375268
        • Current Software Version: 14.1

I hope this information helps. Thank you in advance.

  • We recently relocated to a season job where we aren’t able to use our wifi/router. We have tried to connect to our employer’s WiFi, but couldn’t. (Error code 014) After reading all the threads and trying everything suggested we decided to do a factory reset as recommended. Now we can’t update (error code 003) Our Roku TV is completely worthless. Please help!

To get past the update problem, try connecting to your phone's hotspot if possible.

  • My 4K.SS will not go past "Can't update" Error 003

I've gone to the 'software update' page several times. "Try updating again" just refreshes with "Can't update" page again. At long last it was "checking for software update" but cycled back to "Can't update."
I've unplugged the TV, the router, the WiFi (eero), and still nothing. I'm typing on my laptop utilizing our eero Wifi mesh network.

When I hit the "home" button the screen goes purple with ROKU in the upper left corner. And the only way out of that is to start the process all over again.

    Thanks for helpful input.

I've looked extensively in the community and still come up empty on results.

Judging by the posts here, eero mesh Wi-Fi seems to cause problems with Roku devices.  AvsGunnar may have some suggestions, but if you can, try connecting to your phone's hotspot to get past the update problem.

I changed our modem, and that's when the problem began. Previously, we had it connected to a Comcast modem with the eero mesh network, and had no issues. Previous to that it was connected to a Ziply modem and operated for years.

  • You need excellent wifi connection for it to do the initial update.

Mine would stay 100% and not reboot. I took it where there was good signal and it worked.
